Part 5: Learning Assessment for Improving Training Quality

Session 5-1: Measuring Your Training Results: Developing Assessment Tools

Methods: Presentations, Case Illustrations, Group Discussion

This session is focused on the development of paper and pencil tests that can reveal the extent to which trainees have acquired the necessary knowledge for doing tasks. Additionally, assessment tools can include checklists and rating scales that can be used to measure the attainment of process skills. The session will also address how to measure outcomes or products of training.

Session 5-2: Online Collaborative and Distributed Learning Strategies:
Briefing on Communication Tools & Procedures for ITQ-4/Phase-3 Learning Activities
13:00 - 13:45 Facilitators: Tim Wentling and Andrew Wadsworth
Methods: Presentations and Communication Tools Demonstrations

This session will include an overview of the processes that will be used for e-learning in Phase-3. Building on the Session 2-5 that introduced e-learning, this session will provide specifics regarding the methods that will be used to learn and communicate online. A demonstration of the process will be given and participants will practice during session 5-3.

 
Session 5-3: Measuring Your Training Results:
Developing Performance Measures -- An Experience in e-learning

Methods: Participant 'hands-on' study and practice

Using the online template presented in the previous session, participants will complete learning events covering components of the performance assessment process. This experience will provide participants to experience first hand what e-learning is all about. Additionally, this session will provide basic experience in working with a peer-learning group online. This experience will be an orientation to the e-learning events that participants will engage in during Phase-3.

 
Session 5-4: Performance Excellence in Training Institutions:
Lessons Learned from the SADC Quality Model

This session will present and discuss the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Quality Model, a quality assurance tool that has been developed to help organizations of all sorts - businesses, governments, learning institutions, etc. - anchor a holistic approach to continuous improvement in all of their areas of activity. The concept of Self-Assessment of an organization will be introduced, and various approaches to the Self-Assessment process and quality improvement will be discussed. Participants will use excerpts of the questionnaire that has been developed for use as an entry-level tool for Self-Assessment in a short exercise. The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate both the breadth and depth of the Quality Model, as well as its applicability to training institutions.

Session 5-5: ITQ-4 Workshop Formative/Process Evaluation: Improving Our Learning Process
