Important Things To Do Before Departing for Penang, Malaysia
Dear ITQ-4 Workshop Participants:
As part of your Pre-Departure preparations and the Phase-1/ITQ-4
Workshop activities which will start on February 4, 2002, we hope you
have visited our ITQ-4 Workshop Website whose address is:
http://www.ikonosnewmedia.com/wbi/itq-4
1. Visit & Review the Workshop Website:
It is very important that you frequently visit the ITQ-4 Workshop
Website as the information is being updated continuously. You should
check the Briefing and News Section for Phase-1 and Phase-2 of
the workshop, each time you visit the Website, as we will be posting
important information on the substantive as well as the logistical
aspects of ITQ-4 Workshop. The Workshop Agenda, Participants List &
their Contact Information and Bio-Sketch, as well as the Resource
Materials will be posted on the Website starting September 14, 2001 at
the latest.
You should check the information on travel formalities (i.e., visa and
health certificate requirements) and your airport arrival arrangements
in the Website's Briefing and
News. You could also preview other logistical arrangements that have
been made for you, including the workshop venue, the hotel where you
will be staying, the beautiful swimming pools (so do not forget to bring
your swimming gears, as some workshop sessions may be held in the pool
and/or Jacuzzi), etc. If you are interested to know more about Penang,
the Website also has useful information about the people/culture/history
of Malaysia, food, health, climate, money matters, shopping, etc.
As part of Phase-1 learning activities of the Workshop, you should also
be accessing the ITQ Online section of the Website that provides
many useful reading and reference materials. Mr. Luigi Canali De
Rossi, the ITQ-4 Workshop Online Support Coordinator, will soon be
contacting you and provide your User Name and Password to
access the ITQ Online section of the Website which is reserved for
the exclusive use for ITQ-4 Workshop Participants and Resource Persons
only. If you have not received your User Name and Password, by
September 11, 2001 please contact Mr. Luigi Canali De Rossi by e-mail
at:

2. Identify Major Training Problems & Learning Needs
(Assignment 1-i):
In preparation for Phase-2 Workshop activities in Penang, Malaysia,
please review carefully the ITQ-4 Workshop Agenda, and the
specific topics that will be discussed during the Workshop Sessions.
Based on your own experiences and your present training problems and
needs, you should do the following tasks:
- Identify and select two main priority training issues your
institution or you presently encounter and consider as "high
priority" which you would like to share and discuss during Sessions
1-4 and 1-5 of the Workshop.
- Please write up your specific training problems or learning needs
based on (a) above (this should not exceed one page), and the reasons
why you have selected such issues for improving training quality in
your own institutions. Your written notes (Assignment 1-i)
should be submitted by e-mail at the latest on February 28, 2002
before you depart for Penang, and addressed to:
Prof. Dato' Sulaiman YASSIN
ITQ-4 Workshop Head-Coach
E-mail: smyasin@pc.jaring.my
syasin@kustem.edu.my
Please also bring the 10 photocopies of your Assignment 1-i with you to
Penang.
3. Bring Important Training Ideas, Plans and Relevant Materials:
As you are aware, this ITQ-4 Workshop will provide you with an
opportunity to review, discuss and improve your own institution's
training strategies & programs/plans, curricula, learning methods
& materials, and technology applications. In addition, you will also
have an opportunity to assess and improve your personal training
competencies and skills.
In order to facilitate the above tasks and learning activities which
you will discuss, plan and develop during the Phase-2 of the ITQ-4
Workshop in Penang, please bring with you physically to Penang the
following materials or documents:
- Relevant training strategy or master plan documents which provide a
mandate and/or policy/strategic guidelines for the development of a
specific training curriculum, segmentation of target beneficiaries,
selection of training contents, as well as the organization or
implementation and management of training.
- Samples of training curricula, modules, learning materials that you
or your institution had produced and utilized for actual training
activities.
- Please start thinking on what types of training competencies
improvement (TCI) "project" you want to undertake during
the 6-month Phase-3 of the ITQ-4 Workshop activities. You may want to
prepare a preliminary outline of such an output-oriented TCI plan,
including the specific training/learning skills or competencies you
want to improve, and/or the training curriculum, learning modules or
other support materials you wish to develop/revise during Phase-3.
4. Double-check your Contact Information and Bio-Sketch (CIB):
During this ITQ-4 Workshop, communication and interactions among
workshop participants are very important and critical in facilitating
and ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the peer-based learning
processes and activities. It is thus important that we have accurate and
complete information or "coordinates" (i.e., contact address
and other communication information, etc.) as well as personal
information and background on all workshop participants (which also
include workshop resource persons). Hence, we would like you to do the
following (after September 17, 2001 when most of the participants and
resource persons' information had been posted on the Website):
- On the Workshop Website, please check on the
"Participants" section, and review your Contact Information
and Bio-Sketch (CIB) which you had provided us earlier.
- If the information is incorrect or incomplete, please provide the
correct and missing information by e-mail soonest, but not later than
January 30, 2002, to:
