| Dr. Rozhan Mohammed Idrus is a distance education technologist
at the School of Distance Education, University Science Malaysia
(USM) on the island of Penang in Malaysia. He was appointed as
lecturer in 1986 and is now a senior lecturer at the School and
was promoted to the post of an Associate Professor in 1994.
Between 1987 and 1991, he was the Chairman of the Remedial
Sciences Programme at the School and between 1993-1996 was the
Deputy Director for Productions.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Salford, United Kingdom in Physics with a focus on thin film fabrication and characterization. His research interests include Physics education, ICT-based pedagogy, quality management, and distributed learning. He has also been trained in various aspects of distance education such as Module writing from Murdoch University, Australia (1986); Instructional Design from the Open Learning Institute in Vancouver, Canada (1987) and in Planning and Management from the International Extension College and the University of London in the United Kingdom (1995). He is also a trained trainer in Total Quality Management (TQM) with a Certificate from the National Institute of Public Administration, Malaysia in 1994; trained in Performance Management (USM, 1995), Workshop on Using Communications Network in Supporting Distance Education Students and Tutors (1997), Internal Audit ISO 9000 (1998), Workshop on Quality Assurance in Distance Education (1999) and EMS ISO 14001 (1999). Apart from being an in-house trainer, Dr. Rozhan has conducted many training workshops on the art of module writing such as for CELCOM (1995), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (S.P.A.C.E.-1997), SEAMEO-RECSAM (2000). He was also appointed as the In-Country researcher for the Commonwealth of Learning under an ODA Project in 1997 and was a Visiting Scientist to CARE, Bangladesh (2000) under the Use of Distance Learning Strategies in Farmer Training in the LIFT and SHABGE Projects. |
