| Dr. Abebe H. Gabriel is the Academic Vice President of
Ethiopian Civil Service College that houses the Distance
Learning Centre (DLC) - a member of the Global Development
Learning Network (GLDN). Between 1987 and 1999, he worked for
Alemaya University, Ethiopia, in different capacities: lecturer,
dean of students, coordinator of the continuing education
program, and planning officer of the university. He taught
several courses including economics, project planning and
analysis, economic development, quantitative methods.
He holds a B.Sc. (Agricultural Economics), a M.A. (Agricultural and Rural Development), and a Ph.D. (Development Studies). His Ph.D. research focused on the "Development Strategies and the Ethiopian Peasantry: supply response and rural differentiation". His research interests and areas in which he published include economic development and poverty alleviation, entitlement and empowerment, dynamics of rural factor and product markets, technology transfer, etc. As an academic vice president of the Ethiopian Civil Service College, he would like to help create and strengthen the capacity of the college to design and execute several short-course training programs that would cater to the demands of the civil service in Ethiopia. |
