He researched, among others things, the social and economic aspect of a proposal for the construction of the first Indonesian nuclear plant, the possibility of imposing a pigovian tax and tradable permits in Indonesian forest management, and the mapping of Indonesian economic crises and natural resources depletion. Currently he researches the impact of public disclosure of companies' environmental performance on their stock markets. In addition he also develops computer-based modeling game for teaching environmental economics for LEAD Indonesia Associates.

Mr. Alimi is also a freelance columnist, focusing his articles on issues of democratization, environmental economics, and ethics. He has published hundreds of articles in various newspapers since 1988. In 1995-2000, Mr. Alimi taught engineering ethics and environmental economics at the Indonesian Islamic University in Yogyakarta Indonesia. He studied English Literature at Semarang Teaching Institute, and later on nuclear engineering at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. Later, he studied environmental policy studies at Oberlin College in the United States and became a visiting scholar at the Oberlin College and Vassar College. He also studied Islamic ethics and political science through various courses. He also took courses in Environmental Economics in the University of Philippines at Los Banos in 1998 and 1999.
